When we set out on our mission to provide free data & analytics training to 10,000 students and professionals from underrepresented communities over the next 3 years, we could not have imagined the passion and potential that was evident among the 8,000+ candidates who applied for the Data Science for All / Empowerment program.

We're excited to introduce you to some of the Fellows who are part of first 500-person cohort. They will start their virtual classes on October 24, 2020. We are honored to share their stories here.

Meet Vivian Richards, who has studied International Relations and Business at the University of Oklahoma, and led an impressive military career in the U.S. Army as an intelligence professional.
Meet Ilija Wan-Simm, a rising sophomore who is planning to study Applied Mathematics with a specialization in Economics at Harvard College.
Meet Taryana Gilbeau, a Boston University graduate who studied PR and Chinese language, and now works at United Talent Agency in the Diversity & Inclusion Department.
Meet Susana Benavidez, a mom of three, born and raised in L.A., who recently went back to Stanford University to complete a computer science degree in the AI track.
Meet Yousif Moshen, a freshman at Stanford University. Yousif was born in Iraq and lived in Syria before coming to the United States as a refugee.

We'd like to thank all of the Fellows featured in this series for sharing their stories. Every applicant we interviewed for DS4A / Empowerment had a unique and compelling story to share, and we are more committed than ever to creating an education-to-jobs pathway for diverse talent.
