Bridge Crewmember

After the Army

Your skills will be highly transferable to civilian roles such as Civil Engineer or Construction Manager.

I joined the National Guard after high school and have served 13 years as a section leader in a multi-role bridge company, applying engineering expertise in a dynamic environment.

The leadership experience I've gained is hard to find in civilian life. I've earned two associate degrees and a bachelor's degree, all funded by the military, which has been life-changing. My military experience has significantly contributed to my professional growth in my civilian career as a Planning Engineer for the South Dakota Department of Transportation.

Ashlee D.
Electronic Warfare Specialist

After the Army

Your skills will be highly transferable to civilian roles such as Information Security Analyst or Electrical Engineer.

Before I joined the Army I was a janitor in my high school. I was attracted to the Army National Guard because of the flexibility it offered, the fact that I could pick any job I wanted, and the extensive scholarships available to pay for college.

My experience in the Army as an Electronic Warfare Specialist has been extremely rewarding. I am very happy I made this choice, and I have learned a lot and made tons of friends along the way. I am currently working as a Data Engineer in the private sector and one as an Army Tools Developer instructor.

Paul M.
Network Communications Systems Specialist

After the Army

Your skills will be highly transferable to civilian roles such as IT Systems Specialist or Network Administrator.

My time in the Army as a Network Communications Specialist was very rewarding. I made a lot of friends and obtained several certifications that set me apart from my peers in the IT field. I am now a Defensive Cyber Operator in the US Space Force.

If you are thinking about joining the Army ... the pros outweigh the cons with the benefits the Army provides. The training and experience will stay with you forever and you can proudly say that you are one of the 1% that raised their right hand to serve.

Brandon G.
Combat Medic Specialist

After the Army

Your skills will be highly transferable to civilian roles such as EMT, paramedic, and other medical positions.

Before joining the Army, I worked as a dishwasher. I knew I wanted to build a better future for myself. I saw the Army as a path to financial independence and educational opportunities to help me create a successful career.

Today, I work as a Registered Nurse specializing in cardiovascular critical care while also pursuing my Doctorate in Nursing Practice. My time as a Combat Medic laid the foundation for my nursing career. The Army also provided educational benefits that allowed me to pursue advanced degrees and expand my professional opportunities.

Anthony H.
Military Intelligence Linguist

After the Army

Your skills will be highly transferable to civilian roles such as Intelligence Analyst or Operational / Managerial positions.

As a Foreign Language Specialist, I learned how to think through problems via frameworks and processes, including how to replicate existing solutions in different contexts. Thanks to what I learned in the Army, I now have a tech job at Capital One.

Frequently asked questions

The Army Career Invitational is a unique, one-day, virtual event designed to help individuals uncover their potential and explore career pathways through the U.S. Army. Our mission is to show you how joining the Army can give you access to free training, on-the-job experience, and other benefits that will enable you to start the career you want. We will guide participants in identifying their current skills, understanding how those skills align with Army roles, and gaining insight into the career paths you can access through the Army both within the armed forces and in civilian roles beyond. Given that capacity is limited, we kindly ask participants to only take part in one event. If you were registered but couldn’t make the first event and would like to attend the February iteration, please contact our team. We will send you the details on how to attend. Participants will embark on interactive "missions" that simulate real-life challenges. These scenario-based challenges are designed to be engaging and insightful, helping individuals see how their abilities match up with potential Army careers. By "solving missions," participants can discover their strengths, their areas for growth, and receive personalized recommendations for Army roles that match their skills and interests. Participants in this event will not only get the opportunity to learn about and apply for jobs with the U.S. Army, but also will be eligible to win a share of $3,000 in cash prizes. No specific career or education prerequisites are required, given one of the main goals of this event is to help you identify your current strengths and areas for growth. We will help you evaluate the skills required to join the Army and progress towards the career that you want. Applicants must be (1) US citizens (native or naturalized) or a permanent resident with a valid Green Card and (2) over the age of 18 to participate. Individuals from all levels of experience and backgrounds with a genuine interest in learning about how they can achieve their career goals through the Army are welcome to apply. Individuals are required to complete an application. Applicants will be asked questions about their background, experience, and interests. This will help us confirm eligibility and ensure that your interests and skills align with available roles. Applicants will receive a confirmation email after they complete their application. The week before the event, we will send all qualified applicants additional event information. We may need to limit the number of participants due to high levels of interest, so we encourage people to apply as soon as possible.
